Description
Delicious beef puffs filled with savory ground beef and vegetables, perfect for an appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 or 85/15)
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/3 cup beef stock
- 1/2 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the diced onion in a drizzle of oil until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Add beef stock and sprinkle the flour over the mixture. Stir and simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Stir in peas and carrots and cook for 2–3 more minutes. Let the filling cool completely.
- Roll out puff pastry sheets on a floured surface. Cut into 3–4 inch rounds.
- Place a spoonful of filling in the center of half the rounds. Top with another round and seal the edges by crimping with a fork.
- Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush tops with beaten egg.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25–30 minutes or until golden and puffed.
- Cool slightly on a rack before serving.
Notes
- These beef puffs can be frozen before baking. Just bake them for a few extra minutes from frozen.
- Feel free to add extra vegetables or seasoning to the beef filling as desired.
